Listen to the Office UI guys

The TWIT Netcast network is offering a very interesting podcast this week: 2 people of the Office 2007 UI team, Jensen Harris and Jacob Jaffe, are talking about the new interface in episode 15 of "Windows Weekly with Paul Thurrott".

And while we're at it: other podcasts I like to listen to are the original TWIT (This Week in Tech, hosted by Leo Laporte) and the incredible Cranky Geeks. Yes, I admit, I am a big fan of John C. Dvorak.

Hallo Kris,

Heel interessante blog!

Koen,

Thank you for your comment. As this blog is read by an international community, I'll reply in English. Your question was about the annoying reconfiguration that happens when you have Word 2007 and Word 2003 installed on the same machine: every time you switch between the two versions, a Windows Installer dialog box pops up, "registering" the version that you want to use.

Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a way to prevent this from happening. Microsoft's Knowledge Base article 928091 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928091/en-us) talks about that. I saw this behavior with previous versions of Word (Word XP and Word 2003) and had hoped that this would be 'fixed' with 2007, but it's not.

Strangely enough, Excel and PowerPoint do not behave this way.
